John Joseph GAvA

John has been painting for over 40 years, initially as a water-colourist and later with oils. His tonal and colour quality is combined with excellent drawing techniques; the product of his compulsive pen and ink sketching.

He drives around in a Wolsey Hornet Mini and his interest in things mechanical lead him to join the Guild of Aviation Artists. He is a well established full exhibiting member at their annual open exhibition in the Mall Galleries, and other venues. As a former solicitor he is a keen member of the Law Society's Art Group, and regularly features in the prize list of their annual exhibition; and exhibits in his home county of Sussex.

His subjects range from figures and portraits to landscapes where his love of the British countryside is self evident. Most of his work is en plein air and painted alla prima and he delights in working rapidly with big brushes.

He says: '... enjoy the light!'
